This Popsicle Stick + Clothespin Colour Match activity was a big win amongst my kids! And that’s why I’m sharing this activity with you! It’s also great because it’s FUN, EASY TO SET-UP, INEXPENSIVE and A GREAT WAY TO LEARN COLORS AS WELL AS COUNTING! There’s no better way to introduce numbers and counting (or anything “new” for that matter) as with a simple but fun and engaging activity.
I’ve made this activity real simple by colour coding and numbering the popsicle sticks as well drawing “lines” where the clothespins would go. You can tweak a few of these details to make it age appropriate for your kids.
Vik (2) had so much fun matching up the clothespins to the popsicle sticks (of course he did the green one first as green is his favorite colour). Once he was done matching up all the clothespins, Alina (4) had a go at it and also had fun time.

Materials:
-Mini clothespins (or colored clothespins as these)
Instructions:
First write a number at the bottom of each popsicle stick (I did 1-4 with a black permanent marker). Next, if your popsicle sticks are already colored (like mine), color the clothespins with the permanent marker to correspond to the popsicle stick. DONE!
What is my child learning?
-Numbers (recognizing, memorizing as well as counting)
-Fine motor skills (pinching the clothespin to open)
-Colours (matching the corresponding clothespins to the popsicle sticks)
-Concentration and independent play (an activity that grabs the attention of kids and engages helps them stay focused working on this important skill as well as allowing them to stay independent for some time)
