This Summer Scissor Skills Activity is an awesome way to work and improve scissor skills! It looks colorful, exciting and is totally fun!
I prepped this activity in about 5 minutes and used minimal materials, my favorite part about this! I made it a “summer” theme since it’s summer here, but you can choose simple objects that relate to any theme of course.
My son (2), had a blast cutting away along the dotted line. He did well I must say! Just a bit more hand-eye coordination and finger strength and he will master this hard skill!

Materials for scissor skills activity:
Instructions:
Using the pencil draw out summer doodles (we did cloud, starfish, seashell, sun, flower and lemon). Cut them out with the craft scissors. Next, using the permanent marker make a dotted line in various patterns across each doodle and they’re ready to go.
What is my child learning and improving?
- Scissor skills (learning to hold the scissors and open/close them to cut)
- Hand-eye coordination (cutting carefully along the dotted line)
- Fine motor skills (holding the scissors, working on finger strength)
- Focus and concentration
- Independent activity
TIP- you can make this activity even more fun by asking what each picture is, how is it related to summer and what color is it!
