This Jelly Fish ain’t just a simple jellyfish craft. This is paper-plate-meets-tissue-paper jellyfish craft. It’s fun, unique and simple enough for toddlers to make.
After going to the aquarium with my kiddos (where they touched the star fish and got really into it), we also saw the jellyfish. They were stunned by them. They’re movement, funny shape and see through appearance that we talked about them many times afterwards. They surely were surprised to find out those “jelly-like” creatures sting!
So in honor of my kids wonder and new findings (he-he), I thought a jellyfish craft would be an awesome idea. See below how we made these and what we used to paint them!

Materials for Jelly Fish Craft:
- Paper plates
- Tissue paper (assorted, leftovers)
- Glue stick
- Craft scissors (I’ve linked craft scissors for adults since I’ve done all of the cutting)
- Washable kids paint
- Pom-pom
- Clothespin
Instructions:
Clip the pom-pom into the clothespin and prepare the washable kid paint by placing small amounts of paint onto a paper plate. Next, cut a paper plate in half for the jellyfish. Paint the jellyfish by stamping the paint with the pom-pom, let dry. Then using the tissue paper cut it into wavy strips and glue to the back of the jellyfish.
What is my child learning and improving?
- Fine motor skills (holding the clothespin/pom-pom “brush”, gluing on the strips of tissue paper)
- Creativity (choosing the colors for the jellyfish, choosing the tissue paper patterns/colors)
- Hand-eye coordination
- Diligence, being careful
- You can talk about jellyfish as you do this craft. Why are they called jellyfish? Can they sting? Where do they live? Have you ever seen one?
