Sorting activities are so quick and easy to set up, I think they’re one of my favorite activities to offer my two year old! And this Button Color Sort Activity is one of our go to activities.
Super quick to set up, only a couple materials needed and let me assure you, kids will be totally be concentrated, engaged and busy for a long time. Which is great if you need to make dinner (or breakfast, or lunch), clean the house, make some phone calls, you know, all those other things we have to do besides chasing our kids.

Materials for button color sort:
-Assorted buttons (I chose pink, green and blue)
-Colored bowls, trays, containers
-Flat tray or plate
Mix together all of the colors of the buttons together on a tray. Lay out the buttons as well as the 3 corresponding colored bowls, trays, etc. in front of the child.
What is my child learning?
-Fine motor skills (picking up the tiny buttons with index finger and thumb)
-Cognitive skills (analyzing the buttons, thinking, comparing and matching the button colors)
-Concentration and focus
-Independency (this activity is perfect for some independent play time, quiet time, time-outs)
