Ahh butterflies….my daughter loves them! And I must agree, they are kind of cool! 🙂 This Butterfly Paper Plate Threading craft is super easy to set-up, totally adorable and most importantly, improves those good old fine motor skills!
I prepped this craft in about 3 minutes, had all of the materials needed right at home (woohoo!) and Alina (4) absolutely adored the threading idea! She was so busy having much fun threading in and out of the small holes, choosing different colors and making various patterns she didn’t even notice she was working on some very important skills! Fine motor and hand-eye coordination along with many other skills are exercised and improved with a fun and engaging activity as this!

Materials:
-Paper plate (I like to use sturdy ones!)
–Hole puncher (even a large screw driver works, just be careful!)
-Pencil
Instructions:
Start by outlining a large butterfly on the backside of the paper plate. Next make the holes every 1/2 inch apart to make a butterfly outline. Lastly, pick the thread you’ll be using (I used 3 different colors of threads and tied one end 3 times, the other end once to keep them together. You can use one thread, totally optional) and make a large enough knot at one end, I made a few knots. Start threading with the “untied” end of the threading, if you have single thread.
What is my child learning?
-Fine motor skills (holding the tiny thread)
-Small motor skills (using upper body such as hands and wrists to thread through)
-Creativity (choosing colors, patterns, etc.)
-Focus
-Hand-eye coordination (threading into the holes)
