Cutting with scissors is an important skill every child should learn, but it isn’t an easy one. It takes lots and lots of practice, so I’ve created this quick and easy Ornament Cutting Activity, themed around the holidays. These ornaments are very simple to make, festive and makes learning to cut super fun!

–Cardstock (red, green)
-Lid (about 3″)
First, trace as many circles as you’d like using your lid and pencil and cut out. You can free-hand draw a few long shaped ornaments like I did. Next, cut the vellum paper into squares according to the size of your ornaments, then make one rigid edge by cutting in a zig-zag. These will be your ornament “tops”. Now glue them to the ornaments. Lastly, using the sharpie (color of choice), create different styles of lines on each ornament, this is where the child will cut along.

What is my child learning?
-Scissor skills (this important skill is developed in a fun and exciting way with these ornamens)
-Fine motor skills (using the fingers to hold the scissors and the other hand to hold the ornament)
-Concentration and effort (the child has to cut carefully, not going off the line helps kids do their best!)
-Hand-eye coodination (cutting along the lines and twisting the ornament as they cut)
Have fun improving scissor skills with this fun ornament cutting activity!
